Hands on Maths report.

Michael Ymer's Hands on Maths has been run successfully.

We are sorry to those of you who had to miss out because of the floods!  You just can't beat mother nature how ever hard you try.

There were a few small glitches but mostly everything went off without a hitch.  The Feedback on the workshop, from both those in attendance and the presenter, was unanimously positive.  Thank you to everyone involved, those of you attending included, for the wonderful atmosphere of the workshop!

Estimated Cost per Head value: $135.00 - $155.00 (based on similar commercial PDs)

Cost per head we paid: $92 (this would have been $81 if we had not lost some to the floods!)

Cost per head for CRTs? $10.00

This included Michael as a Presenter, his travel and accommodation costs, the venue, catered morning tea/lunch and resources!

Achieving this low cost would not have been possible without some help. We'd like to thank:

Michael Ymer for his brilliant workshop.
Jacqui for her generous help on the day.
The Wodonga South Primary School for the venue.
The DEECD for the CRT Professional Learning Support Initiative and the funding it provides
Henri's Bakery and my husband Paul for the catering
and everyone who attended!

To address 2 issues;

Lunch room urn;

We apologise for the urn in the lunch room not being turned on.  It is the first time it has been off since we started using the venue so we were lax and did not double-check.  Rest assured we will triple-check in the future!

Signage for directions to the room from car parks;

We understand that this is an issue!  We had paper signs ready for the day but the rain just foiled all our efforts.  Plans are in the works for more permenant signs but unfortunately it all takes money.  While the DEECD funds most of the aspects of PD workshops for CRT's, there is no allowance for some types of items like signs.  This is where the booking fee comes in.  We use the money from the booking fees to provide extras like the goodie bags, fund further PD and buy items like signs, serving trays, an urn for tea'coffee etc.

Unfortunately we have to prioritize.  Signs ARE coming though, rest assured.  We apologise in the mean time and ask that you bear with us!

Regards,

Mel.

Michael Ymer and the flooding!

Hello again!

We are aware that the unseasonal weather is causing flooding issues that may prevent some from attending Michael Ymer's "Hands on Maths" Workshop tomorrow.

We are keeping places open and have catered for all who have booked.  We have done this so that you do not have to make a decision on whether or not to come until you can see the flood reports in the morning!  Likewise, late arrivals will be accepted in anticipation of any detours you may have to make. We don't want anyone missing out unless it's absolutely necessary.

At this time one northbound lane of the Hume Freeway is closed and speed limits are reduced to 40km/h but it is passable.

You can check road closures and changed traffic conditions here:

Drive safely everyone!

Regards,

Melinda Lichnovsky-Klock

Hands on Maths!

A mathematics PD with presenter Michael Ymer.

March 3rd, 2012

Michael Ymer is an experienced mathematics teacher/consultant who has been involved in numerous Victorian state initiatives in mathematics. He is currently working with individual schools and clusters of teachers from Primary and Secondary schools throughout the state as a consultant in a wide range of Professional Development programs in mathematics.
Michael is an enthusiastic and entertaining presenter who has a clear and practical approach to the challenges that confront schools in mathematics. He brings to his presentations an understanding of what does and doesn't work in our classrooms.

This will be a Workshop style PD with hands-on learning and activities. It is Pdi approved and will be 6.5 "Verified PD Hours" for VIT requirements to maintain your registration.

If you attended last year, we can happily announce that Michael has varied the content from May 2011's PD.  It will be worth while attending even if you were at the last one while at the same time being perfectly suitable for those who have never attended one of Michael's PD's before!  We thank Michael for his flexability and willingness to help us squeeze every ounce of benefit out of his workshop for as many CRTs as possible!

Status: Closed.

Please search "Wodonga Ymer" to find this listing on Pdi.

Network membership, to either the Wodonga CRT Support Network or another VIT sponsored CRT network, is not a requirement to attend this PD.

Seats are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and reserved only upon payment of the booking fee. Exceptions made only for distance travellers or where a school is paying the fee.

There are a total of 60 available places.  We are currently limiting the number of seats available to non-CRTs to 10. This number will be relaxed if the workshop is not booked out leading up to the Workshop.

If booked out (or the maximum non-CRT seats are filled) you may ask to be put on a waiting list. Cancelled bookings will be filled from this list before publicly reopening seats. Please email wodongacrt@vit.vic.edu.au to be placed on the waiting list.  Should seats become available you will then receive an email offering a place.

Venue: Wodonga South Primary School, Cartwright St Wodonga.

Parking:  Free all-day parking will be available in the Kelliher Ave or Cartwright St Teacher's car parks.  Please do NOT use the short-term or bus parking on Kelliher Ave for all day parking.

Time: Sign-in begins at 8.45 am, PD time 9.00am to 3.30pm.

Cost: $10.00 booking fee for Victorian registered CRTs, $30 booking fee for other teaching professionals. This is a non refundable fee and payable upon booking.

For the first time we are opening bookings to NSW CRT's from Albury and surrounding areas.  You must be presently working as a CRT in Albury and surrounding areas and not have a permanent part time position.  We regret that we CANNOT accept NSW teachers with a permanent position.  Please be aware that this is a trial and only limited numbers will be accepted.  Your booking fee will be the $30 for "other teaching professionals" which covers your catering and resources.  All NSW CRT's MUST apply for a seat by emailing wodongacrt@vit.vic.edu.au.  You will be accepted on a case by case basis with preference going to those with a genuine interest in becoming Victorian registered teachers.

There is no further cost for this PD, all you will pay is the booking fee.  It is funded by the DEECD's Casual Relief Teachers Professional Learning Support Initiative and Wodonga CRT Support Network funds.

Estimated Value: $105.00 - $158.00 per head (based on similar PD opportunities offered by training organizations).

Bookings can be made in-person at the Wodonga South Primary School main office for locals. For travellers you may book through the school via credit card or please email wodongacrt@vit.vic.gov.au to make alternate payment arrangements.

What to bring:

Michael Ymer suggests that everyone have a Calculator, ruler and note-taking stationary on hand.  We will be supplying a notebook and pens/pencils but we do ask that everyone bring their own calculator and ruler.

We also suggest you bring a USB flash drive or blank CD. Some digital resources are distributed on the day and you can get them with either of these 2 mediums. Alternatively you will require a Microsoft Passport account and will be emailed a link to download the resources.
