The aim of this course is to develop active well informed sub-branches and networks. AEU members will leave with the knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively deal with local issues and participate in AEU campaigns.

When seeking approval to attend, please advise your principal that the AEU will meet the cost of staff replacement - actual cost up to a maximum of $266 per day for teachers, and $190 per day for ES.
We know that staff replacement can be difficult in Wodonga. If this is an issue at your school please notify us.

The AEU Vic Branch will be providing the opportunity for teacher
and ES members to participate in specialist training activities in the
Wodonga Region. A team of elected officials and organisers will be
based in your area for the three days.

This is a practical session which will explain how Recruitment
Online works by using the actual website. We will also take participants
through the type of information that should be included
in job applications and hints on how to write them as well as
interview strategies.
Drinks and nibbles will be provided at the end of this session.

Legal Liability and Duty of Care
This session will examine the current trends and issues in school
litigation. We will analyse ES and teacher’s duty of care responsibilities,
negligence, the reasonable care test, the reasonable
teacher test and professional indemnity. The focus of the session
will be to ensure that teachers and ES staff know about their basic
rights and responsibilities and are aware of the main issues
to be concerned about at school. These sessions reinforce the
absolute importance of AEU membership – “Insure your Career”.

BOX OF TRICKS III FOR RELIEF TEACHERS
In response to the resounding success of our first two Box of Tricks
workshops, we are now offering a further opportunity for relief and
replacement teachers to share their successes.
Bring just one activity to share, and cram your relief teaching Box of
Tricks with a multitude of fresh ideas, resources, tools, techniques
and activities that are proven and reliable
favourites for colleagues.
This is another opportunity for generous and
resourceful relief teachers who like adding
breadth and versatility to their teaching, and
who wish to have just the right strategy or
activity at hand for any circumstance!
Participants also meet a panel of experienced
relief teachers, each of whom has a unique
story to share about their own accomplishments
as a professional relief teacher, and their pearls
of personal and professional wisdom to offer as
well.

The VIT CRT PD is in Wodonga this year!
Each year VIT run a whole day PD especially for CRTs in the Wodonga/Wangaratta area. The last couple of year this PD has been held in Wangaratta. This year we are lucky enough to have this valuable PD in Wodonga.

Wodonga CRT Support Network July Meeting Mintues
Date: Thursday, 23rd 2009, held at Wodonga South Primary School
Focus: Music by Brett Gilbee
Discussed: How can a CRT demonstrate confidence in the music room for a day of work?
Suggestions: Pretend this is your room. Look around the room and focus on the following:
- What can I use?
- How might I use it?
- What is the body of knowledge I want to demonstrate?
- Outcome – does not necessarily mean music.
- What is available?
- Beat in time to nursery rhymes using instruments.
- Use the percussion instruments.
- Dance to the beat.
- Teach dances that you might know.
- Teach drama through music.
- Take a simple nursery rhythm eg. Twinkle Twinkle little star and get students to sing it in rap, opera, jazz or rock.
- Be organised and find your own music and resources such as – Bow to your partner, Hocky pocky, Twist to your partner etc.
- Think about your current view of the situation and work towards a better view of the situation.
- Utilise the pentatonic scale – use sharps and flats with rhythm and beat.
- Use your teaching pedagogy and learning practice.
- Use the xylophones (remove the F & B notes) get groups of children to play a rhythm pattern. Eg. ta ta titi ta 1 2 3 & 4
- Demonstrate by clapping the rhythm pattern to the children first.
- Then get the children to all play their different rhythm pattern all at the same time.
Introduction of percussion
- Allow children to play a range of instruments to a rhythm pattern.
- Swap instruments.
- Then count 4 beats of a particular rhythm pattern.
- Check for silence encouraging all students to finish together.
- Play a rhythm pattern – using soft medium loud.
- Eg 2 beats soft, next 2 are a little louder, next 2 are louder then final 2 are soft.
General music lesson discussion
- Verbalise a positive attitude that we are going to work well together etc.
- Connect with students.
- Use open ended questions when talking to the students. Talk to students about how much music is in their life and how/when they use it.
